Foreword

So many of these forewords have looked back that we should now look to the future. Where does the Time Trial game stand , and what are of prospects in this motor ridden age?

Gone are the days of early morning starts, inconspicuous clothing, no publicity and common sense which kept us out of the public gaze and let the game go on; now we are permitted to carry on only by the Minister of Transport who at any moment could withdraw or amend the Regulations under which we operate and here our chief danger to survival lies. We must continue to be ever vigilant.

Riders must obey the road laws and our checkers must use a modicum of common sense, only then can the game continue to prosper.

Thus began the foreword to the M.& D.T.T.A. handbook penned 45 years ago by the late Ron Macqueen in 1963.

Nothing much has changed but our "game" still survives!

Ron went on in his foreword to suggest that some younger members be encouraged to come forward to take over some of the work undertaken by that faithful band of overworked officials who were all growing older. It could all have been written yesterday, but will we still be here in another 45 years (at least not with the same officials) ?

With the resignation of Dave Whitehead, our long time and vastly experienced Chairman, and Jim Boydell the open events secretary, our District is in urgent need of some new and preferably younger blood.

Please give this the serious consideration it deserves if you want the sport to prosper in the area.
